What a mowing visit actually involves.

The difference between a tidy commercial site and an average one is almost entirely in the preparation and the clean-up, not the mowing itself.

Before we mow

  • Litter run across the whole site
  • All edges cut back to a defined line
  • Obstacles, debris and pet waste cleared
  • Hazards noted on the pre-start form

The cut

  • Height set to the grass type and season
  • Direction varied to prevent rutting and grain
  • Blades kept sharp so tips are cut, not torn
  • Wet-season frequency increased where needed

After we mow

  • Paths, driveways and car parks blown down
  • Clippings removed from beds and hard surfaces
  • All green waste taken off site
  • Photo log issued to the managing agent

Why edging matters

A sharp edge is what makes a site look maintained.

You can mow a lawn perfectly and it will still read as neglected if the edges have crept over the path. Edging is the single highest-impact task on a commercial frontage, and it is the first thing dropped by contractors running behind.

We edge before mowing so the clippings from the edge get picked up in the cut rather than left as a line of debris along the concrete. It takes longer. It is also the reason our sites look finished rather than merely cut.

Questions

About mowing contracts.

How often should a commercial site be mowed?

Fortnightly suits most sites on the Coast. Growth is heavy from November through March, so many contracts lift to weekly over summer and drop back through winter.

What happens if it rains on my scheduled day?

We reschedule within the same week where possible. Thursdays and Fridays are held open for weather catch-up, which is why the cycle rarely slips.

Do you mow wet grass?

Only where it will not damage the turf or leave clumping. Cutting saturated ground rips the surface and looks worse than leaving it a day or two.

Do you catch or mulch the clippings?

Depends on the site. Open verges are usually mulched back; frontages, entries and hard-edged beds are caught and removed so nothing is left visible.

Is line trimming included?

Yes. Around posts, bins, signage, fence lines and garden edges, as part of the standard visit rather than an extra.

What about sloped or hard-to-reach areas?

Handled with the appropriate plant and, where needed, additional labour. It is priced into the contract at inspection rather than raised later as a variation.
